Passports

All visitors to Moldova must hold a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure and must have been issued within the past 10 years.

If you enter Moldova via the Transnistrian segment of the Moldova–Ukraine border (where Moldovan controls are not present), you must register with Moldovan authorities within 72 hours. You can register at any Border Police point, any office of the General Inspectorate for Migration, or Public Services Agency branches. Keep the registration slip until departure.

Passport note

Passport and visa regulations are subject to change, and airlines may have different requirements. Information is correct at the time of publishing; travellers should check with the relevant embassy before departure, particularly when transiting through a third country. We accept no liability for any inconvenience or loss arising from changes to these requirements.

Visas

For tourism purposes, Moldova allows visa-free entry for citizens of many countries. Nationals of European Union and EEA member states, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and several other countries may enter Moldova without a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Citizens of countries not eligible for visa-free entry are required to obtain a visa in advance, either through a Moldovan embassy or, where applicable, via an electronic visa system.

Visa note

Entering Moldova from Ukraine
When entering Moldova overland from Ukraine, travellers should use internationally recognised border crossing points located in the north and south of the country, excluding the Transnistria region. Border conditions may change, so checking for updates with the Moldovan Border Police is strongly advised.

Entering and leaving Transnistria
While there is no internationally recognised border between Moldova and Transnistria, the de facto authorities operate control points where passports are checked, though they are not stamped. Visitors entering Transnistria are required to complete two copies of a migration card issued by the local authorities. One copy must be kept and presented when leaving the region. Travellers may be questioned about the purpose and length of their stay and their place of accommodation, and entry can be refused at the discretion of the de facto authorities.

Types and cost

The visa options for tourists include the short-stay visa (Type C), long-stay visa (Type D), and transit visas (Type A or Type B). Visa fees vary depending on visa type and nationality.

Validity

The Type C visa usually allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and is valid for tourism, family visits or short business trips, while Type D visas are generally valid for more than 90 days.

Application to

Apply online via Moldova's eVisa portal or through a Moldovan embassy/consulate if instructed by the portal. Some nationals also require an official invitation; see the invitation guidance from the General Inspectorate for Migration.

Working days

Visa processing times vary by visa type and application method. Short-stay visas (Type C) are typically processed within 5 to 10 working days, though processing may take longer during busy periods or if additional documents are required.

Entry with pets

Pets may enter if they meet veterinary requirements (microchip and valid rabies vaccination, plus certification where applicable). Confirm current conditions with Moldovan veterinary authorities before travel.
